I would. In Australia we like to think of ourselves as a modern, progressive society, but quite simply, we're not. Of the many issues that set us back, one at the forefront now is the debate around same sex marriage. A postal survey is imminent, and I'd like to say that an outcome of 'Yes' to endorse marriage equality is likely, but it's more complicated than that. The survey is non-binding, its legitimacy is being challenged in the courts, and we are governed by a party that is notoriously tricky, underhanded in its dealings and willing to go to extraordinary lengths to make it look like they're a bunch of caring potatoes without actually having to change anything.I made this design for a greeting card. It's for anyone who should be allowed to marry but can't, and it's simply meant to say to someone 'I would marry you if I was allowed to.' In spite of the current uncertainty I look forward with optimism to a moment when Australia drags itself out of the dark ages, acknowledges that #loveislove, and gives me a reason to change the message on the front of this card to 'We can.' or better still, 'We did.'

Adelaide Barber
Adelaide BarberThe Adelaide Barber was inspired by my own haircutter, who told me one day that he was at risk of being evicted from his rental property because he had set up an unauthorised tattoo studio in his lounge room. Fun fact: his sleeve tatts are classified newspaper ads. This image is part of an occasional series of virtual street art I've undertaken in recent years.
